Mentors Honored at PNC Park

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe Pittsburgh Harlequins Rugby Club has been honored by the Mentoring Partnership of SouthWestern PA in its annual “Excellence in Mentoring” awards.  Harlequin Coach Bill Schildnecht and Mentee Sencere McDonald were honored on the field of PNC Park Monday night before the Pirates took on the Padres.  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMr. Schildnecht has been volunteering in the youth programs since he helped introduce the sport to Pittsburgh’s Inner-city neighborhoods in the Mid -1990’s.  Mr. Schildnecht was also recently honored as a founding member of Harlequins Rugby Club at it’s 40th anniversary Reunion last weekend.

Also on hand were members of the Harlequins Youth Programs from Braddock, Garfield, Hazelwood, Homewood and Larimer.  The Youth programs will resume in April; marking 19 years of mentoring programs for the Harlequins.
