Harlequins Defeat Washington, 25-0

Fall swept rapidly into Western Pa. as the Harlequins hosted Washington RFC on a rainy first day of October with temperatures never rising above the mid forties.

The Quins dominated field position early leading to two Pat Russel penalty kicks. The soggy field and wet ball ruled out any expansive play, and center Luke Titus grubbed through the defense into the try zone with the Quins recovered for the opening try.  The subsequent conversion gave the Quins a 13-0 lead halfway through the period.

Handling errors and penalties stopped both offenses, and the score stayed that way until late in the second period.  With 25 minutes left to play, The Quins started subbing fresh legs on in the forwards, which paid off as they got to the breakdown first, and maintained possession and field position.

A series of ramming ‘pick and goes’ got Alan Murray a try, and a driving Harlequin scrum allowed 8-man, Buffalo George, to finish the push over try.

The home team continued to pressure looking for an important bonus point, but ended by knocking on the bonus try at the goal line as the whistle sounded.

The Quins continue their October home stand next Saturday against Media, kicking off at 1:00pmat Founders Field.
